WA Rural Signs started in 2008 in Boddington as a partnership between James Elliott and his son-in-law, Colin Saunders. James had qualifications in computing and IT (BSc(WA) GradDipCompSt(Murdoch) CertCompEng(TAFE)) and Colin had been a sign maker in South Africa and later here in WA, all his adult life, so in this hi-tech world it proved to be a good combination of skills. James completed a graphic design course prior to the launching of the business, and Colin taught him all he needed to know about sign making.
Colin eventually used his marine qualifications to work offshore and referred work down from Karratha and Port Hedland, while James sourced work locally, and the business got off to a good start, receiving large and small jobs from mining companies, shipping companies, and businesses in Port Hedland, Karratha, Boddington and surrounding districts. Originally form Perth (19 years ago) both Colin and James also received work from the city as well.
With promotion and increasing work pressures in the offshore industry, Colin eventually withdrew from the partnership and James and his wife, Myfanwy, moved to Collie in 2011.
James and his staff have been servicing the Collie region for three years now, and the wider region for more than six years.

Collie Community Broadcasting Association Inc is very proud of the fact that everyone at the station is a volunteer, and thousands of hours of voluntary work go into the station each year.
We were named Collie Shire Council Australia Day Community Group of the Year in 2008, and two of our younger members, Jarred O’Brien and Ben Menaglio, have been named Young Citizen of the Year.
Our target audience is the community of Collie, and this consists of a wide range of ages, interests and tastes in music.
Programmes reflect the personal tastes of presenters, but we do try to cater for most of the population at some time.
We welcome new volunteers to the station, and if you would like to be part of 1089am, contact us.
You do not need to have had any experience or training – we can provide that if you wish to go on air – but if you would prefer to be part of the administrative or technical facets of the station, that would be welcome too.
