Collie Community Broadcasting Association Inc is very proud of the fact that everyone at the station is a volunteer, and thousands of hours of voluntary work go into the station each year.
We were named Collie Shire Council Australia Day Community Group of the Year in 2008, and two of our younger members, Jarred O’Brien and Ben Menaglio, have been named Young Citizen of the Year.
Our target audience is the community of Collie, and this consists of a wide range of ages, interests and tastes in music.
Programmes reflect the personal tastes of presenters, but we do try to cater for most of the population at some time.
We welcome new volunteers to the station, and if you would like to be part of 1089am, contact us.
You do not need to have had any experience or training – we can provide that if you wish to go on air – but if you would prefer to be part of the administrative or technical facets of the station, that would be welcome too.

Retro Respection; a modern online vintage store with the most exceptional service you’ll find – in any era.
From it’s country location in Collie, Western Australia, Retro Respection reaches customers far beyond, posting items out across Australia and internationally.
We sell genuine vintage stock that is personally hunted down, dug up and pulled out from dusty corners by us with serious glee.
Saving memories and the environment one vintage piece at a time is our favourite thing to do!
Mixed in with the vintage are brand new items sourced from all over the world. Our stock is a lot like us – you’ll find a little bit of quirk, pop culture, a little bit of classic and lots of kitsch and vintage vibes.
Our customers are collectors, vintage aficionado’s and those simply looking for ‘something different’ as a gift or to make their home a home.
Providing ‘small town service’ in the online world is really important to us.
We want you to feel valued like we do when we go into our local shops and are greeted by name and with a smiling ‘how are you going today?’
If you ever have a question for us, or a problem with a purchase, don’t be afraid to get in touch (firstname.lastname@example.org). Retro Respection is run by two humans – no robots – and we love to help!
MEET THE LADIES THAT MAKE IT HAPPEN
The partnership behind Retro Respection began as an unexpected friendship in 2013. Storm had begun to experiment selling vintage wares online whilst juggling family commitments (at last count, two children, a stupid number of pets and one lovely husband).
She found herself selling a considerable amount of stock to Joleen, a self-confessed over indulger in the vintage world and a wannabe 1950’s-style stay at home mum (two children, lovely husband, less pets).
Joleen happened to live in the same country town and the pair went on to find themselves bumping heads at local markets as they reached for the same to-die-for vintage plate. And then again, reaching for a vase. Awkward!
The two decided it best to join forces and Retro Respection was born. Now, if only we could get Joleen to stop hiding the best stuff for herself everything would be tickety boo.

“One Day in Collie” states that, “The first ‘civic’ meeting was an impromptu affair in 1897. Mr Tom Carrig, sitting outside his tent watching the two carpenters who were constructing his hotel ‘The Colliefields’, no doubt in pensive mood, called to order a meeting of the ‘First Progress Association’. Tom outlined his progressive ideas – one of the carpenters moved a proposition accordingly, unanimously.” It goes on later to say that “The first civic institution initiated and operated as a local body was the Coalfield Progress Committee. It began on a more official premise than Tom Carrig’s earlier motivations, but was noticeably held at the same venue, the Colliefields Hotel. A public meeting held there in 1898 determined that a body of twelve persons should be elected to make up the Committee, with eighteen nominations immediately submitted.”
The hotel was expanded as seen in this picture of the hotel while under the management of Mr F.W. Crowe.
The new building was magnificent as you can see from this picture, which is of the first hunt meeting outside the Colliefields Hotel.
We have been told that some of the ballustrading was only sold about two years prior to our renovations commencing. Do you know where it is? We’d love to be able to get even a small piece of it or a cast of it as we are hoping to reinstate these balconies in future stages of our renovations.
The article goes on to say that “In the meantime, the next shops, occupied by E. Watts, newsagent, and the Ezywalkin Boot Company, were pulled down to prevent the fire spreading further.” This picture shows the side of the Colliefields Hotel, with all the buildings between it and the Crown totally destroyed.
