What is a Chamber of Commerce?
The Chamber of Commerce is a professional association of business people that collects information and acts according to the wishes of its members. The Chamber is an association of the business community with the prime function to advance the business, commercial and industrial interests of the area and support the local community. It is a lobby group to present and defend the views of the business community to Government—Local, State and Federal, as well as other authorities and organisations.
The Collie Chamber of Commerce is an independent incorporated body administered by a President, Treasurer and Executive Committee who can appoint the Chief Executive Officer on staff, to investigate issues or organise activities and report to the Executive for consideration. An Annual General Meeting is held each year in October with Executive meetings held monthly and general meetings as required.
In recognition that members are important stakeholders in the area’s economy and quality of life, the Chamber provides representation and advocacy on behalf of members and lobbying to support the interests of the local business community. The Chamber is a powerful ally, providing you with the opportunity to influence decisions which affect your business and protecting the rights of business at a local, state and national level.
The Collie Chamber of Commerce agrees with the concept of free enterprise whilst recognising the role of government and appropriate legislation to properly manage and protect the interests of the supplier and consumer equally.
Operation of the Chamber
The Collie Chamber of Commerce employs a part-time Administration Officer and a Chief Executive Officer. All other officers including the President and Treasurer are elected volunteers. The day to day affairs of the Chamber are managed by both our Administration Officer and our Chief Executive Officer, Richard Jackson.
The elected Executive Committee determines the policies of the Chamber. The Executive Committee is comprised of a President, Vice President, Treasurer and up to five committee members, including one Council representative. The Executive Committee meet on the second Wednesday of every month.
